DESCRIPTION: The gall mite responsible here causes a leaf roll to form on the upper surface of the chosen host. The gall is tight and slender and is found along the leaf edge. Within the gall are found numerous mites that feed on the mass of tiny internal hairs. These mites leave the gall before autumn and spend winter within dormant buds. DISTRIBUTION: Frequent throughout Britain but easily overlooked. HABITAT: On the upperside of leaves of Beech leaves. |
